Working offline

Working offline

In the field the network often drops out: basements, mountains, rural areas. The app is built so that no answer gets lost.

Before you go

Open the Forms tab once while you have a network. The app keeps the latest loaded forms in memory, even after a restart, so you can open them without a connection.

Filling in without signal

  1. Open the form and fill it in as usual, photos and signatures included.
  2. Tap Send.
  3. Without a connection, the app shows Kept on the phone: the answer and all its files are queued on the device.

Photos, videos, recordings and signatures stay on the device until they are sent. When the network returns, each file is uploaded to your instance and attached to the right answer.

The connection indicator

The Answers tab (My answers screen) shows what is waiting:

  • the number of answers pending and of files;
  • Offline: they will be sent when the connection returns while there is no network;
  • Connected: tap to send now as soon as the network is back.

Sending

The app sends the queue automatically as soon as the connection returns. You can also tap Send now. If a send fails (server briefly unreachable, for example), the answer stays in the queue, marked retry, with the number of attempts. When everything has gone, the screen says Everything is sent.

Good to know

  • The queue also works for public forms filled in without an account.
  • Do not uninstall the app or sign out while answers are pending.
  • Filling in together in real time needs a connection: offline, the session shows Offline then Reconnecting… (see Filling in together).
