Sections and layout

A long form is easier to read when it is split into sections. Each section has a title, an optional description and a display mode.

Add a section

  1. In the builder, click Add a section.
  2. Give it a title and drag the questions into it.
  3. Pick its display mode.

Sections can be nested, for instance tabs inside a step.

The seven display modes

Mode Effect
Section A title followed by the questions, no frame
Card The questions inside a box
Accordion A panel that expands; only one open among its neighbours
Collapsible A block the respondent can fold away
Tabs Neighbouring sections become tabs
Wizard step The form is filled in page by page, with Next and Back
Fieldset A compact group with a border

Steps suit long forms filled in on a phone; tabs suit a record people browse in any order.

Reuse questions and sections

If you often ask the same questions (contact details, address, consent), save them as templates:

  • a question template keeps the type, label, choices and options;
  • a section template keeps the whole section with its questions.

In another form, add the template in one click. The inserted copy can then be edited without changing the template.

Tips

  • One section = one topic ("Identification", "Findings", "Signature").
  • Put required questions early.
  • Check the phone layout with Try.
