Conditions: show, hide, make required

Conditions: show, hide, make required

A condition changes the form based on an answer already given, so people only see what concerns them.

Where conditions apply

  • on a question;
  • on a whole section;
  • on a matrix cell, for example a "Fix date" column that is required only when severity is "High".

Operators

Operator Use
Equals / Not equals Compare with an exact value
Contains / Does not contain Look for text or a choice in an answer
>, <, ≥, ≤ Compare numbers or dates

Actions

  • Show — the question or section appears only when the condition is met;
  • Hide — it disappears when the condition is met;
  • Make required — an answer becomes mandatory;
  • Make optional — a required question may be left empty.

Step-by-step example

In a site inspection, you want a photo only when a defect is found.

  1. Create a Yes/no question "Defect found?".
  2. Add a Photo question "Photo of the defect".
  3. On the photo question, open Conditions and add a rule: Defect found? Equals Yes, action Show.
  4. Add a second rule on the same question: same test, action Make required.
  5. Click Try and answer "Yes", then "No", to check.

Good to know

  • A hidden question is never demanded, even if it is required.
  • Conditions also work in the mobile app, offline included, and when filling in together.
